![]() ![]() The first time you run it select Tools->Preferences then the Advanced item set Markup to HTML 4 and Transitional, then click OK. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the dialogue to install KompoZer. BlueGriffon is a website text editor which runs on your own computer any pages it saves should be standard HTML and if uploaded to your webspace they should display.įirst download KompoZer by clicking your choice of version on the downloads page. I'm not sure what you mean by "does Plusnet support BlueGriffon?". With regard to creating a password protected page - such a page is no different from a non-password protected page the password protection is applied at the directory level and protects access to anything in that directory. ![]() Whilst what FrontPage did in the "Hello World" directory didn't stop that displaying, assuming you didn't make a mistake earlier with password protection, the error 500 you got on the site could well have been down to FrontPage.Īre you aware of any option to leave FrontPage installed but disable running? My concern is predominantly that FrontPage appears to interfere with any work done independently ot it and (potentially) screw things up. So copying the source into BlueGriffon as an editor should be fine. I've checked that copying the HTML page source into a text editor (Notepad++), saving it and uploading to Homepages (using FileZilla) along with the images gives what appears to me to be an identical browser page as on your site except that the java applet buttons don't display (I'd attempted to copy the class file, perhaps need more than that). However that approach might be a leap of faith you are reluctant to take. ![]() I'd probably back up user and background data files then uninstall FrontPage, confident that I'd be able to produce an acceptable alternative. Having seen what FrontPage did when you tried to manually create a separate directory, one of my major concerns would be stopping it interfering with what you do with a WYSIWYG editor. The hover button applets are java which should continue to work if the class files are made available. I don't think copy and paste would be all that's required to transfer your site pages into a new WYSIWYG editor, FrontPage uses its own proprietary styles and those would need to be copied (if possible) or replaced. If you choose to install BlueGriffon you might want to select Custom Install and untick the 3 "freebies" that are offered. BlueGriffon does have a downloadable User Manual though they charge €5 + VAT for it. Another spin off BlueGriffon is much more actively supported and I suggest taking a look at that. It is my perception that KompoZer support is now less active, the last stable release being in 2007. However Nvu is now discontinued with KompoZer spinning off from it. ![]() Nvu used to be regarded as suitable for beginners, and the Community Support Library article Creating a Website Using Nvu provides a guide to using that. My main experience is with dynamic content involving programming in PHP and Perl, and with packages like forums and blogs. Which editor to choose is a moot point and I've only limited experience to go on. Note that in that tutorial an early message is "don't use WYSIWYG editors like KompoZer or Seamonkey".įor your purposes I think you can ignore that warning a WYSIWYG editor should prove to be a suitable replacement for FrontPage and enable you to create a similar looking site. This now uses HTML5 though those unfamiliar with HTML needn't be concerned with what that implies. I found this tutorial provided a helpful outline of CSS. So for example the latter could be changed independently of the former. The easy part of the response is that CSS means Cascading Style Sheets - a means to separate page content from its layout and styles. ![]()
